Plage Réserve naturelle du Zingaro. Castellammare del Golfo

The Zingaro Nature Reserve is the first nature reserve established in Sicily in 1981 by the Sicilian Region.

It is extended 1,600 hectares and incorporates a stretch of beautiful coastline from Castellammare del Golfo up to San Vito Lo Capo, with small coves and picturesque overhanging on   a pristine sea always clear from changing shades: sky-blue, turquoise, light blue, blue, cerulean blue, ultramarine. The existence of very different ecological niches allows an exceptional faunal diversity. In the Zingaro, in fact, over 40 species of birds nidificate such as the peregrine falcon, the kestrel, the buzzard, the imperial raven, the seagull, the kite, the  jackdaws from the shrill voice, the solitary sparrow, the eagle …

Among the mammals there are the wild rabbit,  the porcupine, the fox and various kinds of rodents. The flora is of admirable beauty with rare and endemic plants; beautiful and little known flowers, which grow naturally, like wild carnations; various types of daisies, the wallflower and marigolds; among the succulent plant there are different types of cactus, prickly pears and agaves (generally called “zabbare”). The reserve can be visited only on foot and is very well organized in terms of use; in it, in fact, there are footpath  prepared with precise indications, refuges, wells, water points, picnic areas, museums, parking …
